Outreach Program

The Art  of Technology Education Program’s (ATEP) Purpose is to provide youths in underserved communities, an  opportunity to learn digital art. Its Mission is to:

  1. Stimulate the young, curious, creative mind through digital training and support.
  2. Provide a means of self-expression, and thereby foster a sense of self  worth.
  3. Share the message of Peace with  the community through a collaborative, creative, experience with Art.

The Art of Technology Education Program, was developed in June 2001 as a response to a request from the San Francisco Black Film Festival for an animation seminar for its younger audience.

The Success

The overwhelming response by youth who attended the seminars led GHP to focus on sharing its work with community organizations and schools throughout the Bay Area. To date, the pilot program has served 118 youth, ages 12-18, representing two community organizations and one school: The East Palo Alto Boys and Girls Club, The San Francisco Black Film Festival and Ralston Jr. High School in Belmont.

The Need for Funding

The plan is to further develop the seminars by making them interactive and project focused. Specifically, we plan to introduce the youth to basic computer graphic software. The project itself will be focused on youth creating computer generated artwork to be printed and framed based on the topic of “Peace.”  The outcome will be a public display of the artwork created by the youth and it will be posted on GHP’s web site for the world to see.
